“The Diary of Stone” recorded the field trip to Mount Apatite in Maine during my exchange period. Although Mount Apatite is named because there was famous for Apatite, there were also possesses rich geological resources, and it became a great mine to look for semi-precious stones and other minerals. Large masses of flawless Tourmaline Crystals, Feldspar and Smoky Quartz, were found in there. I used these locally produced materials on my jewelry and explored the plasticity of different kinds of stone at the same time. The cut stone seems to show the morphology of the mountain, the trail of my field trip.
It records the possibilities of different stones, starting from the raw stone, cutting them one by one, followed by polishing them to different forms and levels of polishing. Then comes arranging and buckling the stones, merged them with each other to fill in gaps.
