“Red River Village” is a series of metalsmithing works, expressing my feelings about urban development with stones I collected and photos I took. In recent years, a large number of rural wetlands in Hong Kong, which have been controversial for many years, begun to be developed into residential use, included some of my favorite sites. I cannot stop it and can only record them with photos or words.
Based on my love for stones, the material, I began to collect patterned stones, and Suiseki Guohua Stone is one of them. The texture and color resemble a scenery of landscape, which is delicate, so it also named the Traditional Chinese Painting Stone. It can arouse my imagination of the landscape strongly. Therefore, I tried to create a series of works by Suiseki Guohua Stone, a material that is tangible but associable. Also with photographs, a medium that is nothingness but records the current sceneary. In this series of work, the image of the photos can cooperate with the texture on the stones to form a complete picture. Besides, questioning what we can do to remember the old place after the related landscape disappears in the future.
