Brass, Convex lens, Stones from Hong Kong

Set of 22: Size variable

“Lens-scape of Hong Kong” is my Honour Project from my Undergraduate Study. In my point of view, every stone fragments have their own shape, form, and pattern. If we enlarge them in scale, their appearance may be likened to aging mountains. Stone fragments are insignificant and unassuming, can be compared to the serenity of mountains, which stand by us unpretentiously. Different land formations in different locations form different types of stones. The minerals which formed the rocks record the story between landscapes.

Living in this dynamic city, the human-made interference in natural landscapes is notable. We are always thinking about altering the landscape to benefit ourselves. Through the lens, insignificant gravel is magnified into landscape scenes. The dramatic work of nature is shown by obscuring the environment behind the audience. This not only brings humans closer to nature, but also guides us to attentively observe the spectacle which has already existed for a long time.
